How I use Yao Women Rice Water

It’s been five weeks now since I first did the fermented rice water rinse and so far I can’t complain. I usually wash my hair twice a week, sometimes once and apply the rice water as my last step. It makes my hair feel strong and I don’t experience a lot of shedding. I have the feeling that this Yao Women rice water will do great things for my hair in longterm.

My hair length

My hair is collar bone length when straightened and the average length is 30 cm or 12 inches. If you compare it to the time I did my big chop it’s not very long. I did my second big chop in spring 2015 after a year of transitioning in box braids and doing flat twists. So it could have been longer. But I went through a lot of emotional and mental stress the last years due to personal problems and also big pressure from university.

This has affected my personal wellbeing and hair care a lot and it even got to the point where I didn’t detangle my hair in weeks and ended up with matted hair. Then I also did big trims several times and bought a texturizer for the upcoming breakdown. I’m glad it didn’t come to that and I’m also glad that I didn’t end up with a very short twa.

Having shrinkage isn’t easy and I want to hold my hair at least into a bun, so my goal is definitely not a third big chop.

So how do I incorporate it into my hair wash regimen?

If we’re talking about ideal moments with no laziness and fatigue, this is what I do:

  1. Prepoo with Aloe Vera gel
  2. Shampoo
  3. Conditioner or deep conditioner
  4. Clay rinse
  5. Rice water rinse

Sometimes I leave step 1, 2 or 4 out

Depending on how much time I have and what my hair needs. This has worked many years for me and now I have incorporated the rice water as final step. I will do an update in August to let you know about changes and my current hair length.

I just don’t believe that hair can grow overnight, in 2 weeks and also not in 1 month into Rapunzel length. These treatments are made to be used as an addition in longterm.
